... if so, GTOPs could be for you!
Some of the things GTOPs has enabled organizations to accomplish:
- build a computer lab for at-risk youth
- hire instructors to teach the elderly to use computers to communicate with their families
- develop camps for 5th-8th grade girls that teach them how to make music videos, build robots, use forensic science to solve mysteries, and build web pages
- bring computers and internet connectivity, training and support into the homes of working poor families
- provide advanced technical training and job placement to low-income Austin residents
- promote intergenerational communication, cross-cultural understanding, 'stop the violence' themes, and community building through digital media arts
- publish student artwork, original fiction, photography, animation and music on-line
- place free computer/Internet workstations in low-income neighborhoods and housing projects
- train technical professionals on building websites accessible to the disabled
- offer computer literacy education to non-native English speakers
GTOPs
Vision: A community where all citizens have access to the facilities and the necessary skills to participate in an emerging digital society.
Mission: To provide matching grant funds to Austin organizations for projects that create digital opportunities and foster digital inclusion.
Goals:
- Support programs that provide public access to computers and information technology, especially among underserved segments of our community.
- Support programs that provide information technology literacy, education, and training.
- Support programs that use information and communication technologies in innovative ways that serve the community.
- Provide seed funding for Austin community and non-profit organizations for their technological outreach efforts.
